Taking over a project after work has begun can be a delicate situation. The client has cultivated a relationship with the designer, good or bad. Time has been spent and paid for educating the designer, relaying assets, establishing a common vocabulary and developed a unified vision. It is this relationship that sets the tone of the project moving forward. To step an existing design process is to hit the ground running with no time for questions or qualms about executing specific styles. Format Studio had just lost their designer, and their client, Glamour, was getting antsy. The pressure was mounting. Format Studio brought Wondertwin on-board to finish the project and quell the fears.
Glamour demanded a lot of “sparkle”. Understanding the client vernacular was key to the project's success. “Sparkle” could mean lots of things to different people, but given the context it meant capturing the essence of Glamour and fashion.
As we moved forward it became apparent that, while the initial design answered a great deal of questions, it required refinement and expansion to include additional pages. I quickly familiarized myself with the brand’s standards and needs. Sitting in on my first meeting with the client, and additionally my first design presentation, I was able to glean the meaning of their words leaving Glamour feeling positive and confident. The design was completed under a tight deadline and with plenty of “sparkle”.
