Visual Designer - Behavior Design

A structured, well-formulated design process does not always occur in every project or with every client. When the process become bogged down, for whatever of reason, it is important to develop unique exercises to keep moving it forward. When Behavior Design encountered such a situation while designing the AARP website they gave me a call.

During the initial design explorations the process ground to a halt with a breakdown in communications. AARP was under intense pressure to deliver visual concepts in a tight timeframe. Behavior was required to develop Information Architecture (IA) to inform the design and create initial Look & Feel designs. Neither side felt they could compromise.

I developed a quick and agile exercise to help move the project forward. My Marker Comps (Image 1 and Image 2), an exercise from my print design days, allowed AARP to see visuals, discuss aesthetics and IA while giving Behavior the necessary time to ramp IA development. The success of this one exercise helped to get the project back on schedule and win Behavior additional business from AARP.
